Licensed Veterinary Technician- Part Time

Are you looking for a fun new job at an exciting new cat clinic in the picturesque pacific northwest on Tuesdays and Fridays starting in January 2023? Great news- Galaxy Cats Vet Center is looking for a new member of our team! We specialize in veterinary care for cats: everything from internal medicine to surgery to behavioral and nutritional counseling. Unlike most feline-only veterinary practices in the Seattle area, we are privately owned, allowing us to prioritize the health and happiness of your pets. Because we do not see other species at our facility, and because we utilize low-stress cat handling techniques, our feline patients benefit from a much lower stress level than provided by a traditional veterinary clinic. When it comes to our team, not only do we work hard, we play hard as well! Primary duties

-Provide compassionate care to patients and clients.

-Prepare and maintain the treatment areas.

-Keep accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy.

-Admit patients following hospital policy and doctors written orders.

-Effectively restrain pets.

-Understand all common vaccines and vaccination protocols and be able to explain to clients.

-Gives SQ, IM, and IV injections.

-Assist the veterinarian in medical, surgical, and dental procedures; prepare patients for surgery; administer anesthesia; monitor patients during surgery and recovery, administer fluids.

-Properly care for all surgical and treatment materials and equipment as well as keeping those areas stocked and cleaned.

-Perform clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains a file of lab test results and ensures that results are recorded in patient records.

-Effectively position for and take radiographs.

-Place IV catheters and properly care for them.

-Know common disease states and alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients.

-Understand usage, dosage, and common side effects for commonly used prescription drugs and readily explain them to clients.

-Discharge patients based on the veterinarian’s orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state, and explain necessary follow up and home care instructions.

-Maintain an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system.

-Conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks.

-Maintain a positive, cooperative relationship with other employees.

-Understand the importance of a clean and orderly facility, and clean, do laundry, and organize as part of a normal job duty.

-Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or veterinarian.

Required/Desired Skills

  • Customer service experience required
  • Veterinary Technician license (current) and experience required
  • All staff are to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and wear masks within the clinic at all times other than eating or drinking
  • Experience with EzyVet software a plus
  • Self-motivated, highly personable, and dedicated to providing top quality care
  • Ability to prioritize and switch tasks in a fast-paced environment without getting stressed
  • Ability to converse with clients easily and respectfully
  • Ability to answer simple and complex medical questions
  • Friendly and professional written and verbal tone
  • Convey important medical information to veterinarians and other veterinary staff
  • Have reliable transportation and be punctual
  • Attention to detail (medications/ cleaning)
  • Med Clerks license preferred but can be provided once hired
  • Efficient use of down time (stocking, cleaning, etc)
  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment/ not easily stressed

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 – $29.00 per hour

Primary duties

  • Maintain organization and manage flow of daily schedule
  • Basic cleaning and maintenance of reception, hallway, kennels, and exam room areas such as sweeping, mopping, wiping down tables
  • Appointment scheduling for exams and surgeries, etc.
  • Clear communication via phone, text, and email with team members and clients
  • Feeding and cleaning of hospitalized cats
  • Accurate daily record keeping for boarding cats
  • Basic cleaning and maintenance of boarding areas such as sweeping, mopping, washing dishes, litter boxes, and laundry
  • Stocking treatment area supplies
  • Medical Scribe for DVM during appointments
  • Safe restraint of patients during procedures including blood draws, IV catheter placement, medication administrations, etc.
